Prospective parents, guardians and students are welcome to join us for an Evening Informational Event at Edna Brewer Middle School. You will learn about the academic and extracurricular programs that make our middle school a top choice for Oakland families.
Following a welcome by our award-winning Panther musicians, you will hear from Brewer Principal Aubrey Layne and a panel of students from grades 6-8 who will present their perspectives, insights and experiences and answer your questions. Prospective students considering attending Brewer are particularly encouraged to come with questions!
Attendees will then be able to attend three of several rotating "break-out" sessions held in various classrooms around the school that focus in-depth on a particular academic subject or elective. These sessions are held by Brewer teachers, and each includes a short period for Q&A. There will also be an opportunity for more informal, one-on-one Q&A with school administrators at the end of the evening.
This is a very popular event, so register early! Please be sure to RSVP for the total number in your group.
We look forward to meeting you!
FAQs (please read before contacting us):
What are my transport/parking options?
There is parking on the streets surrounding the school. We recommend you arrive early, giving yourself plenty of time to find parking and walk to the school.
AC Transit line 18 stops right by the school, on Park Blvd at E. 38th St.
Where do I go on the evening of the event?
Please enter the school through the left set of doors as you face the school on 13th Ave. (this is the entry closest to E. 38th St.). Go down the stairs, straight down the hall, and out into the courtyard. Parent volunteers will direct you to the gym for the first portion of the program.
How many people can I bring?
Due to overwhelming demand and space limitations, we ask you to limit your party size to 4 people. Prospective students are encouraged to attend this event along with their parents/guardians! Please do not send students without a supervising parent/guardian.
Are these events appropriate for families looking to transfer from another middle school?
You are welcome to attend this event, but it is primarily geared towards 6th grade classes and activities. For families interested in a transfer opportunity for their 7th or 8th-grader, you are welcome to contact the Brewer office directly to arrange a grade-specific tour.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No -- we will have a check-in list when you arrive.
Are there other options to learn about the school?
Yes -- there is a series of Morning Tours taking place from September through January. Click here to sign up for a Morning Tour.
