(PRE-REQUISITE CSEC 101)About this EventDescription: In oder to attend this training CSEC 101: Basic Training is required which wil be offered on July 20th.CSEC 102 is designed for social service providers to assist them with enhancing their ability to work with CSEC survivors and their families. The training begins with a discussion about self-care and vicarious trauma. Next, the trainer will provide a brief CSEC 101 review that will include information on emerging populations such as CSEC with boys, the intersection of CSEC and gangs, and CSEC amongst Indigenous youth. Next, an overview of trauma will be discussed which will include discussions about the impact of trauma across one’s lifespan, trauma bonds, the continuum of abuse, life after the commercial sexual exploitation, and resiliency. Next, the training will focus on the Stages of Change Model. Participants will learn how toidentify what stage a CSEC survivor is in and how to help a survivor move from one stage to another. Lastly, the training will focus on strategies for preventing peer recruitment and AWOLs amongst CSEC survivors.The training is designed to be interactive and engaging as it includes lecture, video clips, large group discussions, small group activities, and reading from excerpts of books. Participants will receive a power point handout and a training handout which includes vignettes, resources, and space to take notes.Outcome Objectives for Participants:1) Participants will be able to identify at least 1 strategy they can utilize to intentionally practice self-care regularly to prevent vicarious trauma.2) Participants will be able to explain how trauma can impact someone throughout their lifespan.3) Participants will be able to identify at least 1 strategy to promote resiliency with CSEC-identified youth and families.4) Participants will be able to describe the context of change.5) Participants will be able to identify what Stages of Change a commercially sexually exploited youth is in.6) Participants will be able to identify at least 1 strategy to help a youth transition from one stage to the next stage.7) Participants will be able to apply the Stages of Change model within their organization to better work with commercially sexually exploited youth.8) Participants will be able to identify at least 1 strategy in which they can apply the Stages of Change model in their treatment planning/case planning with the youth.9) Participants will be able to describe why commercially sexually exploited youth AWOL from placements.To be eligible for this training:Participant must be staff, caregiver or volunteer working directly with foster, adoptive or probation involved children, youth and their families in Alameda, Solano, Mendocino, Lake, Contra Costa, Humboldt, Tuolumne and Calaveras only. ALL participants unless a caregiver/resource family must register with a work email address that can be verified; unless the participant is a caregiver. Participants outside of these areas aren't eligible.
