We allow our art practice to be intuitive rather than meticulously planned.Writing, journaling, and reflection creates an opening for easeful art prompts that allow you to put paint on canvas without hesitation. The space is dynamic and offers engaging prompts for people moving through big transitions, are shaping a new life style, or simply want a intimate moment to reflect in nature and community.After settling into play, we will be releasing through gentle yoga and closing the day with sound healing - unlocking all of the lessons of the day.The retreat is open to experienced artists, but especially for people who are brand new to visual arts. Yoga is gentle and open to any level of experience.Facilitated by Sola Habibi and Mellisa Andrada.Sola Habibi (they/them) - a healing practitioner combining liberatory philosophy with yoga, art, nature and writing to expand our embodied understanding of freedom and autonomy. Sola has been practicing yoga for 15 years and teaching accessible classes for the last 3 years. They are known for hosting Forest Yoga classes, a tender space to connect with yourself, each other, and the land. Sola's paint practice is unique and based in the ideals of art healing, focused on expression, emotional regulation, and freedom through messiness, reflection, and play.Melissa Andrada (mel - they/them) is an expressive arts healer and yoga teacher whose purpose is supporting people to transform trauma, oppression and suffering into art, healing and belonging. Bringing together the magic of musicality and movement, Mel’s sound healing gentle flow offerings create a heart-centered space for people to feel the depths of their grief, emotions and humanity and heal towards wholeness and joy.VenueWe will be enjoying the abundance of Fig Leaf Gardens, 4046 39th Ave, Oakland. Fig Leaf Gardens is a beautiful backyard oasis in the Redwood Heights neighborhood of Oakland. Walking past the zen garden, you will find over 30 different varieties of fruit trees, vegetable beds, a chicken coop, beehives, a pond, and a 60-year-old fig tree (our namesake). Aside from providing a bountiful array of produce, this space has a history of bringing people together, of sharing meals and stories, and cultivating community.
