This is the 7th consecutive year of the AfroComicCon International Film Festival and our first year at the historic Grand Lake Theater. The festivities are from 4 pm - 10:30 pm. Our co-directors are Juan Davis and Mirage Thrams. We have an amazing program this year:
The AfroComicCon International Film Festival is a dynamic platform dedicated to showcasing groundbreaking films that push the boundaries of storytelling and visual artistry. As a division of AfroComicCon and our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Oakland Technology & Education Center (OTEC) we are committed to fostering diversity, inclusion, and Afrofuturistic representation in the film industry.
Our festival celebrates the work of talented filmmakers, content creators, and screenwriters from all backgrounds, with a particular focus on underrepresented communities of color. We seek films that inspire, challenge, and entertain, while also promoting important social and cultural messages.
Our Focus
We are passionate about films that explore the realms of science fiction, speculative Black fiction, horror, fantasy, anime, superheroes, and comic books. We are interested in short and feature films.
Our Mission
The AFCC International Film Festival aims to:
Amplify diverse voices by providing a platform for filmmakers from underrepresented communities.
Celebrate Afrofuturism and its impact on contemporary culture.
Foster collaboration between filmmakers, artists, and industry professionals.
Engage audiences through thought-provoking and visually stunning films.
