"description": "History of Sierra Pines\n\nIn the early eighties a group of people met in the pine trees at Camp Oakhurst for worship and Bible study. When the faithful few grew to thirty-five people in 1989, they called Bruce Newton to be their pastor and named their group Sierra Pines Church. The snowfall on the hills around the camp often prevented the growing group from meeting, so many Sunday mornings the church had to meet in town. They met at hotel rooms, restaurants, and more than once they fired up the oven at The Pizza Factory and ate pizza and bread sticks as they gathered for worship. Still God blessed them and they continued to grow. When one hundred and fifty people were gathering each week, they contracted with the Met Cinema in town to hold church there, and a couple of years later, Sierra Pines bought a small building on Hwy 49.\n\n By God’s amazing grace, this property at 40855 Covey Court became available and the building you see now was erected in 1996. Today with thirty-four acres of potential building site, and three services every Sunday, over eight hundred people call Sierra Pines Church home. \n\n For the last twenty-seven years, Bruce and a committed staff, along with faithful volunteers continually share the church’s mission statement: “To love people the way they are and to inspire them to all God has called them to be.” If you want a church where you can be accepted and challenged to grow spiritually and personally, then this is the place for you. Consider this a personal invitation. You are welcome here."
