Come Try Horticulture is a hands-on wellbeing experience built around nature, routine, and connection.
This small-group program is designed for veterans, first responders, and their support people, offering a calm, supportive introduction to horticulture in a real working nursery environment.
There’s no pressure to perform.
No expectation to talk.
Just time, space, and something meaningful to work on together.
Participants take part in simple, guided activities such as planting, propagation, soil preparation, and garden maintenance — while rebuilding routine, confidence, and connection at their own pace.
Facilitated by veteran Matt "Red" Lonie, the program is trauma-aware, practical, and human-first — meeting people where they’re at.
The program is delivered by Invisible Injuries in partnership with Australian Native Nurseries, and is fully funded under the Invisible Injuries - Veterans Wellbeing Grant – Program 5 (Come Try), supported by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
