Disability Network Wayne County Detroit and Local Farmers Launch ADA-Accessible Community Garden in College Park
Detroit, MI – November 22, 2025 – Disability Network Wayne County Detroit (DNWCD) is teaming up with local farmers, veterans, seniors and community, organizations to launch an ADA-accessible community garden in the College Park area—creating a vibrant, inclusive space where people with disabilities can grow food, build skills and connect with their neighbors.
The celebration kicks off with a Community Meet & Greet on Saturday, November 22 at 1:00 PM at 7800 W. Outer Dr (
https://www.google.com/maps/search/7800+W.+Outer+Dr?entry=gmail&source=g)., Suite LL55, Detroit, MI 48235. The event will feature local farmers, seed giveaways, an organic goods basket raffle and opportunities to sign up for free agricultural workshops.
“Our community garden says one powerful thing: people with disabilities deserve access—to fresh food, to green space, and to the joy of planting something and watching it grow,” said Lori Hill Sanders, CEO, Disability Network Wayne County Detroit. “This is about dignity, health and hope. When we garden together—people with disabilities, veterans, seniors, families and farmers—we grow a stronger community.”
The new garden will offer free agricultural services and produce, as well as hands-on learning that includes:
• How to plant, grow and harvest fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs
• Recycling, composting and soil restoration
• Organic and sustainable growing practices
• Small-space and container gardening
