Or want to punch up your writing with a joke or two?During this session, led by award-winning dark comedy scriptwriter Hugh Dichmont, learners will explore the foundations of writing funny things for theatre, audio, screen, and more, whilst exploring their creativity. Throughout the day we will spend time on a different techniques, including how to get inspired, and how to find your unique comedy-writing voice. Exercises will include:Joke writing. Sketches and short films. Crafting funny characters.Approaches to constructing a comedic story.Satire and comedy as social commentary.Looking at examples from contemporary sitcoms and sketch comedy, this day-long workshop will be delivered through discussion, in-class writing exercises and pair work, in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
