Upcycle Workshop – Sock Top Make-up Pads, 22nd November 2025
Join us at our Upcycling Workshops with local Textile Artist Sarah Satchell and learn how to repurpose materials to prevent waste. This workshop is to make your own cute Make-up Pads from unwanted socks tops.
Yes, you read that right, sock tops! It would be most unusual if any of you out there didn’t have some:
odd socks
a sock which is past darning,
or even some cute little socks that you saved from your child when they were little (go on, own up!)
We’re pleased to welcome local textile artist Sarah Satchell to Shop Zero. Sarah creates interesting workshops around her life-long devotion to upcycling and reusing textiles.
Sarah will guide you through how to repurpose these once cosy socks into some gentle, reusable and washable make up pads. Basic hand sewing skills are required, but Sarah will show you how to blanket stitch your little creations.
All materials and equipment are provided for you. Just bring along some of your favourite abandoned socks. This is the perfect time to give them new life by repurposing them! Old T shirts well too.
This workshop is suitable for children over 8 who must be accompanied by an adult. Both must book a ticket.
And with Christmas coming, maybe these little pads will make a great homemade gift!

The Greenery at Debbie Bryan’s, First Floor, 4-6 St Peter’s Gate, Nottingham NG1 2JG.
Hosted by Shop Zero.
Workshop charge: £15 per person.
We have 10 spaces for each workshop, meaning you will get close attention and help from Sarah.
Booking details:
Bring your own sock tops – this is the part of the sock from the ankle to the top (old t shirts work too).
Stitching materials and equipment included.
Unlimited hot drinks
10% off any purchases at Shop Zero on the day of the workshop
This event is part of our Learn Zero programme, and will be held in Debbie Bryan’s Greenery right next to our shop at First Floor, 4-6 St Peter’s Gate right above The Tokenhouse gift shop, NG1 2JG. The venue is accessed via some steps (with handrail).
The venue is just 3 minutes from Market Square in the centre of Nottingham, close to the tram and central bus drop-off points.
Workshop timings are 10am-11.30am. You are welcome to stay and look around the shop after the workshop (and get 10% off any purchases).
Cancellations policy
If you need to cancel your place – we are pleased to offer you a refund or swap you onto another workshop. Any cancellations before 24 hours will be eligible for a refund. For cancellations within 24 hours, we are able to offer you a place on a future course.
