- **Event Description**: The meeting will bring together experts and stakeholders to present and discuss the latest research findings on outdoor & indoor air qualityAbout this EventUKHSA Annual Outdoor and Indoor Air Pollution Research Review Meeting - £40 per delegateWelcomeThe UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) Annual Outdoor and Indoor Air Pollution Research Review Meeting, held since the mid-1990s, is the UK’s leading national meeting that brings together experts in air pollution and health research and policymakers.We are pleased to announce the 2026 UKHSA Annual Outdoor and Indoor Air Pollution Research Review Meeting, which will take place in Nottingham on 17th November 2026.The meeting is organised by the Air Quality and Public Health team within the Environmental Hazards and Emergencies Department at UKHSA. It will bring together academics, government scientists, policy makers, and others to present and discuss the latest research findings in the field.Following this event, UKHSA will host a sister event, the Air Quality and Public Health Stakeholder Event, on 18th November 2026. The stakeholder event offers researchers a valuable opportunity to network with national and local government and other stakeholders including health charities and industry partners. Please see further details on the Stakeholder event.Who should attendThe Research Review meeting is aimed at academics and researchers at all levels, policy makers at both national and local level, directors of public health, and health charities.Call for abstractsAbstract submission is now open and will close on 6th September 2026. We invite abstracts from a wide variety of disciplines. This year, research contributions on outdoor and indoor air pollution and health are particularly encouraged on the following areas:• Morbidity outcomes and it’s underlying biological mechanisms (e.g. toxicological models and clinical biomarkers)• Methodology to assess air pollution exposure, identify sources, evaluate exposure biomarkers, quantify its contribution to health effects, including the use of health economic metrics• Inequalities in exposure and health outcomes e.g. variations by region, setting and socio-economic status.• Evaluation of air quality strategies and policies e.g., clean air zones• Health impacts and co-benefits of air pollution reduction in the context of climate change mitigation and adaptation process• Health impacts of emerging pollutants e.g., micro fibres/ plastics, ultrafine particles and nanomaterials and horizon scanning of anticipated air quality scanning• Assessment of co-exposures involving outdoor and/or indoor air pollution alongside other environmental factors (e.g., noise, ventilation), including their interactions and combined health or exposure impacts.• Application of Artificial Intelligence in air pollution and health research• Rural air quality dynamics e.g., agricultural sources of air pollution, considerations in comparison to urban environments• Interventional and behavioural studies to address the impact of air pollution• Local initiatives in the East Midlands including effective communication to different audiences or economic evaluationAbstract submission guidelinesAuthors may submit a maximum of two abstracts, indicating their preference for an oral or poster presentation.Abstracts must be submitted using the following online form Format requirementsA) Structure: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results and ConclusionB) Word limit: Maximum 300 words, excluding the titleC) Do not include diagrams, figures or referencesSubmission deadline6th September 2026 at midnight. Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified no later than four weeks before the event via email by the Organising Committee. Detailed instructions for oral presentations and posters will be provided via e-mail following abstract acceptance.Please note that all presenters must be registered to attend the meeting.If you have any questions about the submission process, please contact the organising committee at aqevents@ukhsa.gov.uk.RegistrationRegistration is now open. We recommend registering early as the venue has limited capacity and the tickets have been sold out in previous events.FeeThere is a fee of £40 per delegate. Payment details will be emailed to you from September onwards, including a secure payment link through Trust PaymentsPlease note that the tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled or significantly rescheduled and you are unable to attend the revised date. Refunds will not be issued if you change your mind or are unable to attend.If you are no longer able to attend, please inform us as soon as possible so the ticket can be offered to another participant. At our discretion, we may permit a substitute delegate or arrange for your ticket to be transferred, subject to approval.A full ticket refund will be issued to the lead author if their abstract is not accepted. However, if the abstract is accepted and later withdrawn, the fee will not be refunded.ProgrammeThere will be oral and poster presentations and keynote speakers presenting the latest research and issues on the topic of indoor and outdoor air quality.
