Heya
My name is Salik. I have worked has a guide and ice climbing instructor for the last 4 years and I am a certified Norwegian Alpine climbing instructor. I have put together a Beginners ice climbing course for Bø Klatregruppa.
1400,- NOK pr. person (4-5 participants)
1200,- NOK pr. person (6-7 participants)
1000,- NOK pr. person (8 participants)
2-days course that will give you the tools and knowhow to go out iceclimbing on top rope. This does not include accommodation and rental gear.
250,- NOK pr night (we stay two nights) for accommodation at Old School Hostel in Rjukan.
600,- NOK for full renting gear for 2 days.
Total max pr. person 2500,- NOK
Total min pr. person 2100,- NOK
You can either rent bedlinen or bring your own.
Everyone must provide their own food, there is a kitchen in the hostel. We will cook dinner together though.
This course is for you if:
- You want to expand your climbing season to include the winter without freezing your fingers of. Maybe not a promise I can hold...
- You have a minimum of Brattkort climbing experience.
- You want to learn how to climb on ice.
- You are a member of Bø Klatregruppa.
- It is advised that you have insurance.

The course will include:
- Ice climbing technique.
- Hazards on ice.
- Building a belay station/anchor, methodoligy behind it.
- The mental game of ice climbing.
- We will only climb on top rope.
- How do I progress to lead ice climbing? Next steps.
Day 1 - 4th February
Arrive at Old School hostel in the evening. You will get your gear (boots and adjusted crampons). We will have a meeting around 19:45.
Day 2 - 5th February
First day of climbing. We will go to a crag called Ozzimosis. Leave the hostel at 8:30 and we will be back around 16:00.
Focus of the day will be:
- Hazards surrounding ice climbing
- Belaying on ice vs. rock/indoors
- Ice climbing technique
- Workshop on rappel from anchor to anchor. How to set up top rope.
Day 3 - 5th February
We will go to a crag called Krokan. Leave the hostel at 8:30 and we will be back around 16:00.
Focus of the day will be:
- Setting up top ropes (Your turn)
- Ice climbing technique
- Ice conditions and formations. "Reading" the ice.
- Workshop on ice screws
- Mock leading if interested. Next steps.
