- **Event Description**: Led by representatives from the First Congregational Church, Morrill Memorial Library will host two sessions of the FCC's anti-racist book club this month, discussing The Right Kind of White by Garrett Bucks. This discussion, the first in the series, will take place on Tuesday, February 3 starting at 7:00pm in the Simoni Room.

On February 3rd and 17th, the FCC will have 2 book club-style conversations about Garrett Buck's 2025 memoir, The Right Kind of White. Bucks is the founder of the Barnraisers Project, which has trained nearly one thousand participants to organize majority-white communities for racial and social justice. His memoir is honest and straightforward. He writes in the forward: "I originally conceived of this book as a sociohistorical analysis of the varying ways that White people have defined themselves in relation to one another throughout American history. I realized very early on in that process, though, that while I truly believe that there's a collective narrative at play here, I couldn't honestly tell that story without first interrogating my own." Over two sessions of the FCC Anti-Racism Book Club this February, we will hear Bucks' story, and hopefully tap into our own understandings and lives as they relate to anti-racism and social justice.

Tonight's discussion will be led by Beth Hestad on behalf of the FCC, and will provide an introduction to the book and its subject matter. Attendees do not need to have read any of the book to join this session, though we encourage people to start reading, if possible.

The second discussion will take place on Tuesday, February 17 and will include a more substantive deep-dive into the book.
