Thanksgiving is all about gathering together, sharing the bounty of the table, and pausing to be thankful for the people around us, and what better way to celebrate than with a Norfolk twist on this great American tradition?
Thereβs even a local connection: four of the Mayflower passengers hailed from Harleston, including Edward and Sam Fuller, who signed the Mayflower Compact, the agreement that went on to influence the American Constitution.
So you could say Thanksgiving has always had a Norfolk heartβ¦
Weβll begin with bowls of silky sweetcorn chowder and warm cornbread before we lay the table with roast Norfolk turkey, glazed ham scented with cloves and orange, and a chestnut and mushroom Wellington that could tempt even the most dedicated carnivore.
Pile your plate high with creamy mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, buttered corn on the cob, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, and lashings of rich turkey gravy.
And then: dessert. It wouldnβt be Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie, but weβll also be baking warm apple and cinnamon pie and serving gooey chocolate brownies with hot sauce for those who prefer a little decadence to end the night.
Coffee and freshly fried doughnuts seal the deal.
Because gratitude is at the heart of this holiday, when you arrive, youβll be given a card to write down something β or someone β youβre thankful for. Pop it in our Great Pumpkin, and at the end of the night one will be drawn at random for a prize. A warm glow of seasonal goodwill is guaranteed.
