His work breathes new life into traditional songs, blending ancient melodies with contemporary sounds and powerful storytelling rooted in landscape, culture and the natural world.Sam first came to prominence with his acclaimed debut album Ground Of Its Own, shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize, and has since continued to challenge and reimagine the boundaries of folk music through albums including The Fade In Time, Old Wow and his most recent release songdreaming — named one of MOJO’s Top 10 Folk Albums of 2024 and winner of Best European Album at the 2024 Songlines Music Awards.Beyond the stage, Sam is a widely respected voice for nature and culture. A co-founder of Music Declares Emergency and a champion of environmental causes, his work often explores the deep connections between music, wildlife and the landscapes we inhabit.
