Norton Singers (Norton Community Theatre, Inc) is thrilled to announce tickets are now available for its 2025 spring production at Wheaton College, for what is sure to be an unforgettable production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's stunning masterpiece, Sunday in the Park with George.
Inspired by the painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat, the musical merges past and present into beautiful, poignant truths about life, love and the creation of art. One of the most acclaimed productions of our time, this moving study of the enigmatic painter, Georges Seurat won a Pulitzer Prize and was nominated for an astounding ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
THE STORY: The days leading up to the completion of his most famous painting, Georges Seurat is struggling to make meaningful art and maintaining a relationship with his lover, Dot. Amid the scorn of the artistic community, Seurat's artistic ability thrives while his love diminishes. A century later, Seurat's descendant – named George and also an artist – finds himself burnt out and in search of what artistic path to follow, but he finds the answer to his future in the past.
As will all Norton Singers productions, the focus of this show is on the voices and the music, and this production will feature an ensemble of almost thirty strong singers, accompanied by a full orchestra, to bring to life this challenging and heartbreaking work about our need to connect to the past, present and future. This year’s production will be directed by Maryann Zschau, with music direction by Steven Bergman.
Sunday in the Park with George will be performed on Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14, with a Sunday matinee on June 15. Purchase your tickets early, online ticket sales end one hour prior to the show.
We are very excited about this production, which is the perfect way to celebrate our 80th anniversary of bringing challenging theater works to Wheaton College. This is one brilliant show you won't want to miss. Come celebrate the art of making art!
