- **Event Name**: Melbourne pub discussion - Disordered eating in young people and adults
- **Event Start and End Date**: Wed, 26 Aug, 2026 at 06:30 pm – Wed, 26 Aug, 2026 at 07:30 pm
- **Event Description**: "Disordered eating in young people and adults – key processes in assessment and navigating the best treatment pathway/s"

Do you feel uncertain about how to navigate assessment and treatment of a young person or adult who may be presenting with disordered eating.
Join us to explore what we consider key in both the assessment process and working out the best treatment pathway for a young person or adult.

Individuals with restrictive eating disorders often present with complexity and ambivalence making early identification, formulation and timely intervention both critical and challenging. In addition to this, restrictive eating disorders have significant physical health implications during a period of rapid growth and development, therefore appropriate intervention is paramount to a young person getting back on track with adolescence.

This presentation is designed for any psychologist or mental health clinician seeking to strengthen their confidence in assessing, formulating and navigating treatment pathways for an individual presenting with disordered eating. Working with someone with a restrictive eating disorder can feel unclear and overwhelming. We will explore how you might best engage the individual in your care, activate their support network, and the importance of a collaborative and multi-disciplined approach to care.

Participants will leave with a clearer framework for assessment, increased confidence in treatment decision-making, and practical strategies to support early and appropriate intervention. We will draw on research and clinical expertise to help inform which treatment model best suits the individual you are working with. We will utilise a case example to explore how to assess someone’s eating behaviours, and how to navigate misconceptions and challenges that often arise when working with someone with an eating disorder.
