In our fifth and final public discussion of the year, we are going to grapple with the problematic of building collective power, because it is only as a โweโ that we can really confront and transform our lives.
Living in a time of hyper-individualism, intensifying atomisation, and fragmentation, it is difficult to imagine - let alone engage - in a collective project. Due to a range of cultural drivers, our isolation has often made us weak and vulnerable. We have lost the art of working together, walking towards a common horizon. All of which feeds into our current malaise, which is the widespread internalization of our perceived powerlessness.
Thus, we ask:
- What does it look like to become part of a powerful and liberatory collective force?
- How can we get there?
- How can we do conflict well?
- What project is worth investing in and fighting for?
In this discussion SBE brings together a range of different tendencies of the left to explore how we can attempt to overcome our separations and build collective and sustainable power.
Our speakers will include:
Aeon Walker - an organiser at Black Spark Cultural Centre. They will discuss their involvement with the social space and future possibilities.
Daniel Lopez - a commissioning editor for Jacobin magazine, he'll explore the reasons behind Victorian Socialists moves to become a national electoral organisation.
More speakers to be announced soon!
Entry will be $5.
