- **Event Description**: On this day in 1675 King Charles II and John Flamsteed ( the first Astonomer Royal) laid the foundation stone for the Royal observatory in Greenwich designed by Sir Christopher Wren whose Chief assistant was a man called Robert Hooke, an english polymath who among many other achievements produced a very detailed drawing /engraving of a flea in the new science of microscopy. this drawing of a flea is the logo for our business @The Yorkshire flea with the addition of a flat cap. 
The foundation of the observatory was to solve the problem of longitude which hampered accurate navigation on sea voyages.and laid the basis for huge chunks of modern life standardised time and the whole structure that underpins current technology.
 Here at the flea we are itching to bring you slices of history embodied in the objects our exhibitors bring.
From scratch built models to period furniture and all points between.
