About the event

Toronto Sports Camp - Week 2
ICD's Sports Camps are multi-sport day programs that provide diabetes literacy support, empowerment, mentoring and normalization, and a whole lot of summer camp fun for all ability levels.

Incorporating sports skills and drills, challenge circuits, carb-counting, diabetes management support and diabetes discussions integrated throughout each day - not to mention mentorship from our youth leaders and important connections to peers - we like to think our camps have something for everyone.

When

Week 1: July 7 to July 11
Week 2: July 14 to July 18
Week 3: July 21 to July 25

Where: Tait McKenzie Center, York University, Toronto ON

Regional on site Sports Camps are open to children with and without type 1 diabetes aged 5-15 each week. Campers aged 13-15 years can take part in our integrated leadership development program. Youth 16+ can register as volunteers and even earn Community Hours for school. Friends and siblings are welcome to join!

Camps are full day, drop off programs that run from 9am to 4pm. Before and after care may be available.

Participants will get active in multi-age groupings and dive into a variety of sports and exercise while managing diabetes together.

Coaches and peers with T1D who share the same tasks and obstacles to success, create an immersive environment to empower campers' independence, self-confidence and communication skills. Our team includes passionate leaders who share their lived T1D experience to help campers reach their goals.

Communication: Our goals are to connect with parents/caregivers at the start and end of each day to capture any directions from parents for the day and follow through with a flexible support plan. Any issues would be taken on by our team onsite. We track all tests, snacks and insulin given, and can offer pointers for potential adjustments, when needed.

About Us: ICD is a leader in exercise and diabetes, hosting thousands of type ones in everything from a fun day of sport to week-long camps and extreme challenges. We focus on how to manage diabetes effectively in the midst of real life challenges and use active programs to bring strategies to life. If you’re looking to build on your diabetes skills or see why 100% of participants surveyed reported transformative or positive impacts, come pay us a visit.

Support: While we do not intend to take the diabetes management away from youth attending our camps, we do provide structured support to ensure testing and insulin decisions are being made with an individualized commitment to support any aspect of diabetes management that enables the child to join and grow. Whether that is delivering insulin whenever needed, carb counting, site changes, pump problem solving, or decisions on treatment, we work with you to build confidence over the course of our program.

Cost: $350 per camper per week.
