- **Event Description**: Presented by the FUMC Children in the Fellowship Hall in place of Sunday School on Dec 14. For those new to Moravian Lovefeasts, they began in the Moravian Church which was founded in 1457 in what is now the Czech Republic. In the early 1700s, many Moravians came to the New World establishing settlements. One of the most significant is just down the road in Winston-Salem. John Wesley (founder of the Methodist movement) met Moravians on his trip over to the New World and was quite enamored with their faith. When he went back to London, he attended Moravian services and was able to attend a Moravian Lovefeast. The Lovefeast was a revived tradition from early Christian churches when simple meals were shared together for fellowship, unity, prayer, and care for one another. John Wesley was so moved by this experience that he introduced the Lovefeast to early Methodists in England. It is now used by UMC at Advent or Christmas as a time to celebrate community and the light of Christ. Here at UMC NW, we continue this tradition and embrace rich Moravian heritage found throughout our state.
