- **Event Description**: On Ash Wednesday we will have two services of Holy Communion with Imposition of Ashes. The first at St Aidan's at 10am, the second at St Hilda's at 6pm. 

Traditionally we mark the very start of our Lenten journey - quite literally - with the signing of a cross on a foreheads, remembering that "[we] are dust, and to dust we shall return". It's an invitation to consider how we live in the world around us, the choices we make, the connections we have, and the ways in which our relationship with others, God, our environment, and ourselves need attention. We also have the opportunity to receive Communion, to be "fed" as we journey through this season, this preparation for Easter.

Through Lent, we're invited (following this recognition of our place in a bigger picture) to give something up or take something on... preferably something that we can build on throughout the rest of the year. Saying that, choosing to give up one fo the "standards" chocolate/sweets/alcohol/meat/etc in order to be more aware of how much we can depend on them or take them for granted is also valid! Whatever you choose to do, know that you're not doing it alone - there will be many others doing similar things across the world.
