Who is this course for?
Level 3 (previous stained glass experience required)
Lead work and copperfoil work;
Creating work using both lead or copperfoil.
This 6 session course over 6 weeks is for students who have experience working with cut glass and lead or copperfoil to an intermediate level.
A minimum level of experience is required - an intermediate stained glass class with either lead came or copperfoil must have been completed or to the same level completed elsewhere.
You may have also had previous experience and want to refresh your skills. (Note the stained glass beginners is not enough experience to be able to complete this course.)
You will work with the medium (lead or copperfoil) that you have experience with.
What does the course cover?
The aim of this course is to offer you the opportunity to create your own work with the guidance of an experienced tutor. Working with piece glass and leading and/or glass and copperfoil. While also having access to a designated work area, tools and equipment.
Itinerary;
Week one - will focus on your designs. Please bring your pre drawn design with you on week one and also have the measurements ready in mm. The designers will help you adapt this to glass work. Also the opportunity to find and choose your glass choices - ordering if required. (for anyone continuing previous projects week one can be continuing your work )
Week Two - Everyone to start glass cutting
Weeks Three to Five - Glass cutting and leading.
Week Six - Cementing and polishing, panels can be left at the workshop to dry and be collected at a later date. Copperfoiling projects brought to completion.
Tutors;
Your tutors will be one of three artists and these will change week to week to give you the opportunity to work with all the artists. Derek Halliday will be tutoring this course at stages through the course alongside Jon Mills and Helen Lynn.
What can I Make;
It is advised that if this is your first independant project - that you keep your ambitions realistic for your first project. Keeping the design smaller and simple will allow you to comfortably learn how to work independantly and we will be offering more courses so you can come back and create with confidence.
You can use this time and bench space to create a design of your own choice using the medium of lead or copperfoil that you are experienced with. Glass fusing is not included on this course.
Extra time will not be available on this course. If your project is not complete then you can join us on the next course or complete at home please do not ask your tutors for additional work space time.
What is included in the fee?
Your fee of £144.00 (£24.00 per session) includes tuition by an experienced stained glass designer, the use of tools and equipment and bench space.
Materials are NOT included. These will be charged if purchased from us or you can bring your own. Please note we charge per sheet/half sheet or quarter sheet of glass. Per full length of lead and per stick of solder. Copperfoilers - you will need your own roll of copperfoil.
There is a maximum of 6 students per class to ensure individual attention.
Please note, this course involves working with lead, we recommend that pregnant women do not attend.

What do I need to bring?
Please wear sturdy and fully enclosed footwear (no open toes or gaping sides) and old clothes that you do not mind getting dirty or damaged.
Your design - drawn to scale and measurements in mm
Please ensure long hair is tied back.
All drink containers/bottles must have lids, student must bring own drinks.
No food can be consumed during the class

The GlassHouse, 5b Albion Road, North Shields, NE30 2RJ.
Course Times:
6 sessions. 6pm to 8.30pm. Over a period of 6 consecutive weeks.
