In Songcraft Sessions participants will explore the essential elements of songwriting, gaining valuable insights into the structure and components of a song, such as verses, choruses, pre-choruses, and bridges. Stephen will guide you through the distinctions between songwriting and arranging, helping you create music that is both cohesive and impactful.
Join renowned Canadian folk artist Stephen Fearing for an engaging and insightful 5-hour songwriting workshop. This session is designed to deepen your understanding of songwriting and foster your creative growth, whether you’re a seasoned songwriter or just starting.
This workshop aims to help each participant walk away with a deeper understanding of their songwriting process and the tools to further develop their craft in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Anatomy of a Song: Understand the structure of a song and the roles of its components: Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, and Bridge.
Song vs. Arrangement: Learn the difference between writing a song and arranging it.
Inspiration vs. Perspiration: Explore the balance between waiting for inspiration and developing daily writing routines.
Overcoming Writer’s Block: Discover practical exercises to jumpstart the writing process and conquer writer’s block.
Dealing with the Inner Critic: Gain strategies to manage self-criticism and enhance your creative flow
INTERACTIVE SESSIONS
Song Performance and Feedback: The first two hours will be dedicated to participants performing one of their songs for group discussion. This section aims to provide constructive feedback, using each song as a basis for discussion and growth.
Insights from Stephen Fearing: Stephen will share a few of his songs, offering commentary and inviting group discussion. He will emphasize that while there are many ways to write a song, understanding key rules or parameters is essential.
