- **Event Description**: Nonnative and Invasive Plants, Threats to Our Ecosystems and How You Can HelpAbout this EventThe Neighborhood Land Conservancy will sponsor a special free presentation at 12:30 p.m. on October 28 at the North Port Library Veranda Room at 13800 Tamiami Trail (back room).The topic of this important program is nonnative and invasive plants commonly found and/or too often sold and planted in our area, why they are unhealthy for our neighborhoods, and how you can help.Dr. Katherine Clements, Ecology and Natural Resources Educator for UF/IFAS Extension and Sustainability, Sarasota County, will explain in detail the threats to our ecosystems from the plants that crowd out our natives and provide little food or habitat for our pollinators and other wildlife.Each person who attends will receive a free copy of "Silent Takeover: Invasive Plants in Florida", a 28-page, full-color illustrated book about damage inflicted by some of Florida’s worst invasive plants.Please join us at this valuable program to learn more about the environmental harm caused by these invaders.Everyone is welcome, no registration necessary.For more information, email office@neighborhood-land.org or text/call 941-275-5814.Learn more about us: www.neighborhood-land.org
