About the event

Winter Hike
Folks should gather at the end of Banton Street (North Haven).

Peter Picone, a Wildlife Biologist for the State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and a volunteer who serves on the board of directors for the Quinnipiac River Watershed Association, will lead an exploratory walk, starting at the entrance to Quinnipiac River State Park on Banton Street.

The area is known to be a wintering area for the northern saw-whet owl, the smallest owl found in CT. The walk is to help educate the public on the value of the area and the wildlife along the Quinnipiac River. Pete will also point out the presence of wildlife, and plants that provide winter cover and winter food.

If there is snow on the ground Pete will look for tracks for the presence of wildlife activity, plants that provide winter cover and some that provide winter food. The walk is mostly on level ground. No dogs allowed on the walk.
