Get ready to let your Inner Queen Esther come out to play, y’all! This year’s Reconstructed Purim Celebration offers our own, unique, never-before witnessed, CBH-flavored version, complete with:
Community Storytelling and Songs based on five Purim-related themes! CBH members will make us laugh, cry, and drink uncharacteristic amounts of actual alcohol to handle our rampaging emotional responses to their amazing, yet true, tales told and sung! (Click on the ticket link to sign up!)
Rebekka’s Spontaneous Midrashic Alchemical Creation Game in which ALL play a part!
Costume and Reconstructed Hamantaschen Competitions with (yes!) PRIZES!
The Megillah, read (gasp!) in ENGLISH, with Rocky Horror-style audience participation!
And, of course, the 2025 EDIE COHEN AWARDS (already very hot on the betting site BetUS)!!
The Deets You Need:
For the story/song performers:
For those creatives ready to compose their (TRUE) story, or interpret a relevant song, here are “Five Themes of Esther”, one of which your story or song should relate to: 1. Family Secrets 2. Bravery 3. You Reap What you Sow (or not) 4. The Truth will Set you free (if it doesn’t K*ll you) 5. Retribution.
Your story should be no more than 5 minutes; songs, 3 minutes. We can accommodate 8 stories and 4 songs, so SIGN UP NOW HERE! Again, your story should be based on something that actually happened to you, and it should relate to one of the five themes in some way you make clear. A song should relate to one of the themes, but need not be composed by you, the performer. We’re not that hard-core.
For “Reconstructed Hamentaschen” Bakers:
Let’s face the klezmer music, bakers. The patriarchy isn’t the only thing that’s crumbling in this world. Yes, your Bubbie always made them at Purim. But Hamentaschen’s dough-to-filling proportions are inelegant. Like some of us older members, it tends to dryness. And, as The Queen Formerly Known as Vashti said: “Who wants to eat an ear, anyway?”
Let’s go boldly where Jewish bakers have never gone! The time is now to reconstruct the Hamentaschen like the ardent Reconstructionists we are! Dream up your own unique Recon Ham, based on the qualities you actually LIKE about this cookie. Is it the filling? Is it the shape? Maybe you just love…folded dough! Well, go for it! Do you picture an Apricot Curd Crown Pie? An ear-shaped Poppy Meringue? A Pink Triangle dripping with honey and nuts? Bring it into being and wow us all! The Purim Partiers will get to taste and evaluate the results, and someone will win a coveted prize!!
Yes, this is a Costume Party!
Come as your favorite Megillah character, a minor player often overlooked, or the one you love to hate! Do it up right and make the Edie Cohen Award judges sit up and take notice of your splendiferousness! Somebody’s going to win a prize, and it might as well be YOU!
So get ready for a Purimpalooza like you’ve never Paloozed before!
DEADLINE FOR STORYTELLERS, SINGERS, AND BAKERS TO ENTER: FEB 10
Do not worry! If we have more storytellers and singers than we do time, we will find a second night to enjoy the rest of the CBH creative splendiferousness.
Yours in the love of a wild Purim Party,
Amy
