The long green spine of Rattlesnake Mountain rises above the Snoqualmie Valley like a fortress of forest and stone. From Snoqualmie Point Park, the trail winds steadily upward through fir and cedar, the scent of sun-warmed needles and damp earth following your every step. The path here feels like a bridge between the lowlands and the heights, and as the miles stretch ahead, you can sense the mountain opening itself one bend at a time.

The route to Grand Prospect is one of contrasts — the quiet hush of deep woods giving way to wide, breathtaking views. Originally built as part of the Rattlesnake Mountain Trail system in the 1980s, this section now stands as one of the Eastside’s great test pieces: steady climbing, big views, and a true sense of accomplishment. Rattlesnake’s name, coined by early settlers, likely came not from snakes but from the sound of dry seed pods rattling in the wind — nature’s percussion echoing through the hills.

Our version of this route goes the distance: just shy of 10 miles round-trip, well beyond the WTA’s listed 7.8. It’s a trail of steady rhythm and quiet endurance, with switchbacks that reward patience and conversation. We’ll climb nearly 2,400 feet to the open ledge of Grand Prospect, where the world unfolds — the Issaquah Alps behind us, the vast Cascade crest ahead, and the valley shimmering below.

By mid-June, the forest hums with life. Sword ferns arch over the path, vine maple leaves filter green light, and the air feels crisp with summer’s early promise. It’s warm enough for light layers and cool enough to keep your stride lively.

This is a true Tenderfoot Prime Time hike — one that celebrates both effort and reward. The climb is steady, but the views, the camaraderie, and the shared sense of “we did that” make it unforgettable.

We’ll meet at Snoqualmie Point Park at 9:00 a.m., ready for a long day in the mountains. Bring trekking poles, plenty of water, and your lunch — Grand Prospect makes the perfect mid-mountain picnic spot.

We'll meet in the far north end of the north parking lot at the Green Lake Park and Ride, and directly under the I-5 freeway at 8 am. Since we are heading east, we can also stop off at the Eastgate Outback Steakhouse at 8:30 am to either pick up additional riders or further coordinate rideshares. Rideshare for the day is $9 per person from the Green Lake Park and Ride and $5 per person from the Eastgate Outback Steakhouse, and is paid to the driver of the vehicle.

Yes, there are two separate fees regarding this event. The event fee, and then a rideshare if you are riding as a passenger with a driver.

Sorry, no doggies are allowed at any Tenderfoot Adventures events as per our insurance policy. We all love our fur babies, and I am sure that yours is amazing as well, but alas, there are no doggies allowed at any of our events.
