- **Event Description**: The Clarksburg Town Library and The Clarksburg Agricultural Commission is pleased to present the documentary film Did You Put Milk in the Bucket?: A Tribute to The Center for Resourceful Living, on Saturday, February 28 at 2PM. The film will be shown at The Clarksburg Town Library, 711 West Cross Road, Clarksburg.  The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

The Center for Resourceful Living, 1975-80, at then North Adams State College and now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, featured hands-on learning and academic courses for students to explore life choices and innovations through localized solutions, renewable energy, and reducing the use of environmental resources. It was the vision of Professor Lawrence Vadnais and his wife, Betty, long time Stamford, Vermont residents. Despite its brief existence, The Center had a substantial impact on the lives of those who engaged with its programs. The hands-on learning came through running a College farm located in Clarksburg, learning to grow and preserve food, creating infrastructure powered by renewable energy, raising livestock, utilizing draft animals to accomplish farm work and logging for construction, and acquiring other practical skills and knowledge. Some might say the program was before its time in its anticipation of necessary actions to avert changes in the climate. The year, 2025, marks the 50-year anniversary of The Center for Resourceful Living’s founding.

In addition to Larry and Betty Vadnais’ dedication to introducing students to possibilities of how to live sustainably, filmmaker Sharon Wyrrick was inspired by the students taking on activities beyond any of their previous experiences, their hopes to make a difference in a changing world, and their commitment to go beyond the motivation of material wealth in making life choices to create a path for themselves whose outcomes matched the values of their hearts. Their voices and stories still offer inspiration today. Wyrrick will be present at the film’s screening.

The creation of the film was funded in part by a grant from the CULTURAL COUNCIL of NORTHERN BERKSHIRE, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
