Art Call Workshop

Gallery North is pleased to announce an Art Call Workshop designed to guide artists through the often daunting process of selecting, preparing, and submitting artwork to juried exhibitions and other art calls. In this digital age of online art calls, an artist must know how to represent their work digitally before many have a chance to see it in person. From finding the right art call, to choosing what to show, to how to capture it on film, this workshop will help the artist present their work fully and accurately to the world.

This hands-on workshop will feature a lecture by local artist and curator Sean McCusker, practical assistance with applying to online art calls, and a live demonstration on how to properly photograph artwork for submissions. Artists seeking individualized support may also opt to have their artwork professionally photographed after the workshop.

Sean McCusker is a local artist, curator, and lifelong art advocate who has devoted more than 20 years to the arts. His surreal landscape paintings have been exhibited at the Berkshire Museum, Gallery 14, and the Rehoboth Art League. In addition to running an art installation business, McCusker serves as Exhibitions Curator at the Becket Arts Center and Vice President of Exhibitions for the Berkshire Art Association. His expertise spans the full art call process, including submitting to, creating, and jurying calls for art.

This workshop offers valuable insight for emerging and established artists alike, providing practical tools to help them present their work with confidence and professionalism.

Info: Sean McCusker will present a slide presentation giving the overview of the art call process from both the artist's and institution's point of view. Full of useful tips throughout the process such as what works to select, what shows to submit to, and how to manage all of the art call materials.

Info: Sean will demonstrate his art photography workflow from lighting, photographing, and processing images. This interactive demonstration will include tips on how to adjust the setup for anyone's level of expertise.

Info: Artists that bring their work may have their work photographed using the provided equipment. Limited to 5 artworks per artist, size limited to 48 x 48 inches.
