For the past few years, our Chapter has sold flies tied by our members at the Appalachian Art and Craft Center, located across from the Museum of Appalachia. We tie Clinch River-specific patterns in sizes #22 to #14, ranging from small midges to streamers such as the Woolly Bugger.
All proceeds go toward our service projects. 
Our meeting on Thursday, August 13th, will be a fly-tying night. We will provide materials for several different patterns, and anyone interested in learning to tie their own flies is welcome to attend.
Our members will be tying flies to replenish the inventory we sell at the craft center. Visitors are welcome to ask questions, watch the process, and enjoy the stories that often accompany fly tying.
If you would like to try tying a fly, we will have extra materials, tying vises, and tools available for you to use. Chapter members will be available to help you as you tie your first trout fly.
Our Chapter conducts fly-tying classes beginning the second week in January. There is a minimal charge for the class, which runs for eight weeks and covers nine different patterns. During each class, you will observe a fly tied by one of our demonstrators and then tie the same fly with one-on-one assistance. Over the course of the class, you will tie six flies of each pattern, completing more than 50 flies by the end. If you do not have equipment, we can provide everything you need during the class. You will also receive our complete fly-tying instruction book to keep.
