HEARTLAND THEATRE COMPANY hosts a Free Event: AN INSIDE LOOK Monday October 20, 7-8 pm at Heartland Theatre
The public is invited to a sneak peek behind the scenes of our upcoming show AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE by Henrik Ibsen, adapted by Christopher Hampton. The director and designers will share their process and insights at AN INSIDE LOOK,
a partnership between the Normal Public Library and Heartland, on Heartland’s stage.
NO RESERVATIONS - NO CHARGE
You will meet the director Rhys Lovell, and the design staff for AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE, who will share their process. Kathleen Kirk, Normal Public Library staff and Heartland board member will moderate the discussion and share relevant materials and resources. The audience will hear some of the director’s vision, see some of the concepts for the scenic design by John Stark, costumes by Nikki Wheeler, properties by Tabith Miller, as well as learn about helpful related materials at the Normal Public Library. Guests will be able to ask questions of the director, designers, and library staff. There is no charge for the event, first come-first served.
ABOUT THE PLAY: A scathing critique of democracy and the tyranny of the majority, An Enemy of the People explores the cost of integrity in a society that values consensus over truth.

An Inside Look is a collaboration between Normal Public Library and Heartland Theatre Company. The program provides an opportunity for the community to meet production staff of upcoming Heartland Theatre productions and discuss relevancy, history, and technical aspects of each valuable theatre offering. Normal Public Library provides limited copies of scripts and related material available to borrow.
An Inside Look has a two-fold mission. The two organizations hope to diversify their patronage through intersection—drawing theatregoers to the library and sending library visitors to the theatre. Besides facilitating this mutual support system, An Inside Look provides prospective audience members insight into the creative process of transforming a script into a theatrical experience. An Inside Look, over the course of Heartland’s season, consists of several individual sessions, which take place two weeks before the opening of select shows in Heartland Theatre Company’s season. Sessions are comprised of a discussion by the theatre artists, followed by questions from the audience.
