LMC offers Community Education English as a Second Language (ESL) classes that provide instruction in American English language and culture. This is an 8-week speaking, reading, writing, and listening class designed for intermediate-level students. Special attention is given to grammar and vocabulary building. Topics covered are decided by the instructor based on students’ needs.
This class is offered in the evening from September 23, 2019 - November 13, 2019 at our Niles campus and is taught by a language teacher who holds a Master's in TESOL qualifiation and has at least five years' experience teaching English to adults for the purposes of work, living, and social integration.
Upon good attendance and successful participation in the class, students receive a certificate of completion that acknowledges what they've learned throughout the course.
Classes meet two days each week (Monday/Wednesday) for 2 hours each class session (4 hours total per week).
Class sessions meet in the evening fom 6:00PM - 8:00PM. The class runs for 8 weeks, totaling 32 hours of language instruction.
The ESL Progam Administrator at LMC will notify you of your class time and location once you have completed class registration, placement testing, and payment.
Can I choose which class session I attend?
You can indicate on the course registration form which days and times you would prefer. However, this is not a guarantee that you will have that class time or date. Your placement within a class will determine your class days and time. The week before classes start, the Director of English as a Second Language (ESL) at LMC will contact you to let you know the days and time of your class. If you have a time conflict with your assigned time, the director will work with you to either place you in a different class or postpone or cancel your registration.
When should I take the language placement test?
After LMC receives your completed registration form and payment, the Director of ESL will contact you with more information on when and how you can take the language placement test. You will, however, need to take the language placement test by no later than Thursday, September 12, 2019.
Are there any requirements to take this class?
Yes. You must be 18 years or older and be able to provide a photo ID when taking your language placement test.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
