Rights of children living in the north of Cyprus
Over the past year, PhD researcher Marieke Hopman from Maastricht University together with a team of 5 students, researched the child's right to nationality for children living in the northern part of Cyprus.
During this event, they will present their research findings. They will speak about which children live in northern Cyprus, which nationality do they have access to and, lastly, how does this give them access to other rights such as education and healthcare. We will address this both in relation to the authorities authorities across the divide.
After a short presentation and a little quiz, the research will be discussed by a two discussants, one from northern Cyprus and one from Southern Cyprus. After this, we will open the floor to discussion among the audience.
Please note that we aim for this to be a peaceful, bi-communal sharing of experiences and ideas.
