Our ancient Precambrian fossil community will be recreated with thousands of illuminated models – each uniquely decorated by someone from Leicester and Leicestershire. Schools across the Geopark are taking part in the decoration of fossils including Charnia and Primocandelabrum, and everyone is welcome to join the Geopark to paint and colour their own fossil at our upcoming Paint The Precambrian Roadshow events.Geopark in the Dark, which will be repeated three times each evening, will be accessible by pre-booked tickets only. Tickets will be available free of charge, thanks to the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund through the Charnwood Forest Landscape Partnership Scheme. "description": "Charnwood Forest is Britain’s unexpected upland. Having begun its journey nearly 600 million years ago in the seas of the southern hemisphere, this very special region has continued to develop rich layers of heritage. We are home to some of the oldest animal fossils ever described, and have quarries whose stone has shaped not only our quiet villages, but also many English cities. Our landscape is defined by crag-topped hills, wooded valleys, heathlands, and grasslands. Shaded lanes reveal Arts and Craft cottages, ancient monasteries, and drystone walls."
