About this Event

DUO MUNDI GEORGE & GULI captivates global audiences with their exciting, innovative, and diverse programming style. Lauded for their performances that “…breathe the same artistic air…with an adrenaline of communication that captivates audiences of every generation,” the duo creates beautifully synchronized performances that engage both the eye and ear in a dance of emotions. Since their inception in 2022, DUO MUNDI G&G has performed standing-room-only concerts in venues across the globe. This summer, they embarked on an exhilarating tour through Mexico, China, Brazil, and Italy, where they were featured on Italian national TV, RAI2. They are set to continue this momentum with upcoming concert and masterclass engagements in Switzerland and Spain. Their New York City debut at the Steinway Hall in April 2023 was a landmark event in their career. Since then, DUO MUNDI G&G has become a fixture on the New York music scene, performing at premier venues like The Oculus at One World Trade Center, The Village Trip Festival, and Third Street Settlement Music School. Recently, they performed a groundbreaking Spiriocast that connected live audiences from Boston virtually to Philadelphia.

On the West Coast, they left a lasting impression with their debut at Santa Barbara’s historic Lobero Theater and enthralled audiences in the greater Seattle area and Mexico’s Baja California. The duo’s extraordinary talents have also been showcased on radio broadcasts, most notably during a live interview and performance on All Classical Portland’s “Thursdays @ Three” in Oregon. Their influence extends to universities, conservatories, and music organizations across the U.S. and abroad through their masterclasses and lectures.

Their recent Global Outreach Initiative in Belize inspired over 800 schoolchildren. They’ve also enriched international and national conferences, including the MTNA, NCKP, and EPTA (in Portugal) Conferences and the Southeast Asia Piano Teachers Symposium. As they continue to explore musical frontiers, DUO MUNDI GEORGE & GULI are set to make an indelible mark on classical music.

Gulimina Mahamuti, DMA, NCTM, co-founder of DUO MUNDI GEORGE & GULI, is a pioneering artist who breaks new ground in classical music through innovative multimedia performances. As the first Uyghur from China to earn a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the U.S., she brings unique cultural perspectives to her artistry. From her early recognition as a gifted pianist in China to her Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall, Dr. Mahamuti has captivated audiences worldwide. Her performances have graced prestigious venues across four continents, including notable appearances in Montreal, Copenhagen, Istanbul, and Budapest. Currently teaching at Bowdoin College, Dr. Mahamuti combines performance innovation with educational leadership. Her groundbreaking work has been featured in documentaries, radio broadcasts, and her CD recording, Xinjiang Piano Music from Western China. As a two-term member of the MTNA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and current Vice Presidential Candidate for MTNA’s Representation and Advocacy, she champions inclusive practices in music education while pushing artistic boundaries through DUO MUNDI G&G’s cutting-edge performances.

George Lopez, Artist in Residence at Bowdoin College and co-founder of the innovative DUO MUNDI GEORGE & GULI together with Gulimina Mahamuti, brings a fresh vision to classical performance through boundary-breaking multimedia collaborations and interpretations. He balances groundbreaking artistic partnerships with his “kaleidoscopic colors and clarity of conception” (Los Angeles Times) as a soloist. With DUO MUNDI, Lopez reimagines classical music for contemporary audiences, integrating cutting-edge technology with traditional virtuosity. This innovative spirit extends throughout his distinguished career, from his “authentic and memorable” (Nederlands Dagblad) Bach and Chopin performances at Amsterdam’sConcertgebouw to his presentations of Bach’s complete Klavierübungen on period and modern instruments. His collaborative artistry has been heard at venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, major European capitals, and international festivals from Spain’s Girona to Cuba’s Cubadisco. At Bowdoin, Lopez leads one of New England’s most dynamic all-student symphonic programs, bringing his expertise to shape tomorrow’s musicians. Through both traditional performance and DUO MUNDI’s innovative productions, he continues to expand the boundaries of classical music while inspiring new generations of artists. For more information, visit their website: https://www.gulimina.com/duomundi.html
