We’ll explore what biodiversity means — why having a wide range of plants, animals, and microorganisms is essential for a healthy and thriving planet. We’ll also discover how all these species like pollinators are interconnected and how they create the balance of life that supports us every day. Lastly, we’ll talk about how climate change is affecting biodiversity and ecosystems right here at the Bay. You’ll hear about the changes we’re seeing in habitats, what this means for the future, and what we can do to make a positive impact.This quarter-mile (0.25 mile) walk covers the trails around the Back Bay Science Center, lasting about an hour. Sometimes going over uneven, gravel terrain, the walk mostly stays on paved or planked paths.Be sure to carve out time before or after your scheduled walk to check out the rest of our Open House — like our touch tanks — run by one of our fantastic partners, Newport Bay Conservancy.Recommended age for this walk is 12 and up, but you know your little ones best. Registration is required as there are 10 available spaces. Completed waivers are required. Weather may cancel the guided walk. Guided walks and the Open House are free and open to the public.
