Treating Selective Mutism in the Educational Setting

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This interactive course is an extension of SM 101 and is intended to help providers in educational settings effectively treat a variety of children, adolescents, and young adults with Selective Mutism (SM) using a team approach and evidence-based practice. Strategies for identifying therapeutic targets and a variety of guided practice experiences will be provided. Techniques for supporting individuals who are clinically severe will also be discussed.


WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
SLPs, SLAs, classroom teachers, special educators, paras, case managers, school administrators, school counselors, school psychologists, other school personnel. 


OUTCOMES
As a result of attending, participants will be able to:
*Describe the hierarchy of therapeutic goals
*Identify at least three therapeutic targets for an individual with SM in the educational setting
*Name at least three key team members in the treatment of SM
*Describe at least three outcomes of effective intervention
*List at least two strategies for overcoming barriers to intervention
