- **Event Description**: The Racing Staff Development Programme (RSDP), managed by the NHC and owned by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), has teamed up with IPET Network to deliver the IPET Network Level 3 Award in Equine Emergency First Aid qualification to its coaches, students, and industry staff around the country.
The course will be run over one day and include both theoretical and practical training to allow current staff to gain recognition and bring commonality to skills and the application of equine first aid across the industry.

The theoretical areas covered will include.
• What is first aid and managing horses in emergency situations.
• The primary and secondary survey and how to carry these out.
• The first aid kit.
• Administering treatments under BHA rules.
• Respiratory emergencies.
• An overview of anatomy and physiology.
• Shock/collapse and cardiac arrest.
• Wounds and how to care for these from basic wound care to emergency wound care.
• Communication with the vet.
• Fractures and eye emergencies.
• Colic/ choke/ tying up/heat stress.
• Lameness/laminitis
• Poisoning and heat stroke

Practical training will include standardising and ensuring the correct application of a wound bandage, stable bandage, poultice, shoe removal along with completing primary and secondary survey checks.

You will receive a L3 Equine First Aid Qualification.
The training will take place at
The National Stud, Newmarket

The RSDP team are part funding the course at £60 a head which will include a light lunch and refreshments.

This suited for barn managers, assistant managers and those studying a level 3 in racehorse care or wanting to progress. 
Open to racing/stud staff.

A small number of places will be offered to local equestrians at the cost of £150
