- **Event Description**: Newfield Greenup Day started in April of 2023. It’s a day dedicated to cleaning up trash from the roadsides of our town. Volunteers this year will come and register on Saturday April 18th at a table stationed out in front of the Newfield Town Hall between 9 AM and 12 PM. Each volunteer or group of volunteers will either select or get assigned a strip of roadway to work on cleaning up. Each person/group will be issued grabbers, black bags for trash, white bags for recycling, protective gloves, a handout with guidelines to follow, and reflective vests for busier roadways. All equipment is being provided by the Cayuga Watershed Network. Once each person / group is done, the bags will be left at the next intersection of the roadway strip that they take care of. Any and all equipment that was borrowed will be returned to a bin stationed at the front of the Newfield Town Hall. Then, on the following Monday, the Newfield Highway Department will pick up the bags from the registered roadways that have been worked on by our volunteers. They will deliver what we collect to Tompkins County Recycling and Solid Waste Center where we have a waiver of up to 2,000 pounds worth of trash to be disposed of for free courtesy of Tompkins County.
