This hike IS RATED "ADVANCED*
ADK hikes are an exciting challenge to take on. Please be sure that you are physically prepared and ready to embark on this particular adventure. We will be pacing hikes to make sure we complete our mountains(s) in daylight. With extended length hikes and approximately 2,000- 4,000 feet of elevation, expect a range of 10-12 hours of hiking and movement.
Things to consider before registering... Having a good fitness/cardio baseline and current hiking experience
**Are ADK trips a good fit for me?**
Whether we are hiking high peaks, or low peaks, hiking in the ADK is much more physically demanding than one of our local hikes. Hiking a mile in the ADK can take up to an hour, you can expect miles up continual uphill or downhill with little to no flat areas. To ensure your safety and enjoyment of the trip, you must be able to hike for 10-12 hours at a time (all day) in challenging elevation, while carrying all of your required food, water, and supplies needed for the day.
Winter hiking in the ADK looks and feels a bit different than other seasons, this means specific attire is necessary for everyone's safety and enjoyment of the hike!
Warm Boots with Good Tread
Winter Coat
Wool Socks
Hats and Gloves
A good base layer (not cotton) as hypothermia becomes a concern. (Dry-fit and moisture-wicking materials)
Boot Spikes (We have spikes available to those who need them)
Hand and Foot Warmer Packs
Trekking Poles
Proper Nutrition (1,000 or more calories) and Hydration (3 or more liters of water)
If you are unsure if these trips are a good fit for you, please come talk with one of our staff members before registering. Each trip’s hike is a little different and some hikes may be a better fit for you and your comfort level. If you have a goal to attend an ADK trip in the future we can also help guide you in how to get your body and mind ready to attend!
