The Last Scorpio
In the not-so-distant future, society has become completely compartmentalised by astrology: the sensitive Cancers work in mental health; Geminis control the media, and pernickety Virgos the government; and those born under the eighth sign of the Zodiac live with a target on their backs from birth.
The state-ordered genocide of all Scorpios has just reached its successful completion, with the world believing to have seen the death of the fabled Last Scorpio, but our hero, Felix, has a secret, and now he must leave town and try to escape his destiny, or else risk exposure and join his fellow Scorpios.
The Newcastle University Drama Society’s production THE LAST SCORPIO, made possible by SSAF funding (by way of UON Student Central) and Atwea College Creative Arts and Music, is a semi-dystopic light satire about the power of the authorities to facilitate hysteria and man's affinity for discrimination, as well as the comfort and convenience of identity politics.
Opening on the very first day of Scorpio season, this production features a cast and creative team comprised entirely of current students of the University of Newcastle, and this is a new original comedy that is not to be missed!
