Newcastle Art Gallery is back and more iconic than ever! And we're celebrating with a free street party.
Be one of the first to view our major collection exhibition Iconic Loved Unexpected and our new Gallery spaces through a series of special activations and live performances by local legends and artists from the Gallery’s collection.
Taking over Laman Street and headlining our outdoor mainstage is Kinder fresh off their national tour, along with James Drinkwater and The Pitts, Jayteehazard, Bonnie Anne and Rose White.
Explore our temporary sculpture park featuring works by Braddon Snape and Dani Marti, as well as art making with Jen Denzin and David Lobb, a pop-up bar, food trucks and more.
Inside the Gallery you will hear the iconic sounds of the CREATION choir, Tina Havelock Stevens and Toby Cedar, fall in love with roving performance artists, and stumble upon a few unexpected surprises.
Experience a moving performance by Catapult Dance, responding to a new tactile commission work by artist Fayen d’Evie, and watch as some of our visitors get permanently inked by local tattoo artist Eddy Lou inspired by works by collection artist Kara Wood. Be dazzled by the talents of Fuchsia Sable performing faux psychoanalysis readings and interpreting Rorschach ink blotting on paper prepared by audience members.
See rarely seen and never-before-shown works of art by local, national and global artists, and discover national icons, crowd favourites and unexpected gems from our nationally renowned collection.
