Teenagers Shinji, Rei, and Asuka pilot cyborg mecha called Evangelion for the paramilitary organisation NERV, defending the city of Tokyo-3 against otherworldly monsters called Angels. SEELE, a powerful shadowy council, is planning to bring about a cosmic event that will wipe out all life on earth and merge all souls into one: The Third Impact. Shinji’s father Gendo, commander of NERV, wishes to twist this for his own goals, others like Misato, head of NERV operations, strive to prevent it at all costs. Ultimately, everything lies in the hands of young Shinji; traumatised, depressed and in the midst of a debilitating existential crisis as Tokyo-3 is attacked by SEELE.
