Following on from February’s demonstration of the smocking pleater, members of the Smocking Arts Guild will be running a workshop at NCEATA on traditional English smocking.

This form of embroidery has often been seen on little girl’s dresses (think, Princess Charlotte) but can be used on many things from bags and adults clothing to coat hangers and notebook covers.

Smocking also offers opportunities to create interesting textures which can be used in other work.

To participate in this workshop, please bring along:
       ?some stranded embroidery thread in your choice of colours (several shades of one colour can be effective).
       ?embroidery needles.
       ?scissors.

You will be shown how to read a smocking graph as well as learning various stitches that you can practise on a sample piece.
