- **Event Name**: Forever Chemicals, future generations: What environmental pollution means for reproductive health
- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 25 Jun, 2026 at 06:00 pm – Thu, 25 Jun, 2026 at 07:00 pm
- **Event Description**: PFAS, the so-called "forever chemicals", are now in our water, our food, our homes, and even our bodies. But what does that mean for human health, and for the generations still to come?

Join Dr Jacinta Martin for a compelling look at how the environment shapes some of the most fundamental aspects of life: fertility, pregnancy, and early development. Drawing on cutting-edge research from the University of Newcastle and HMRI, this talk reveals why reproductive health may act as an early warning system for environmental harm, alerting us to threats long before they show up elsewhere.

Jacinta will take you inside the laboratory to show how her team studies environmentally relevant exposures, tracks how pollutants move across generations, and searches for strategies to reduce their impact. Along the way, she will share some of the very latest findings emerging from her research program; insights that could inform clinical practice and shape environmental policy for years to come.

Dr Jacinta Martin is a reproductive biologist at the University of Newcastle and the Hunter Medical Research Institute, investigating how environmental toxicants such as PFAS and plastics-associated chemicals affect fertility, pregnancy, and development across generations. She leads an NHMRC Ideas Grant in this field, has published more than 38 peer-reviewed works, and has secured over $4.4 million in research funding.
Come ready to think differently about the invisible chemistry of everyday life, and what it means for the future of human health
