It doesn't have the huge dunes you'll find on the southwest or northern coasts, but it does have tremendous architecture and an extensive history. Tucked away on a peninsula against the Irish Sea, Portmarnock has hosted a Walker Cup, 19 Irish Opens, and is on tap to likely host an Open Championship in the near future. - You could say the front nine at Portstewart's Strand Course is the best opening nine in the world and you'd have a leg to stand on. Rerouted by a local school teacher to include seven dramatic dunesland holes, the Strand Course is among the more eye-popping examples of golf course architecture you'll ever see. - An underrated stop in Northern Ireland that combines classic linksland with some great dunes holes. County Louth won't blow you away with water views and huge dunes, but its strategy and conditioning will have you thinking about it for years to come.
