- **Event Description**: Because of its superb acoustics, St James' and St Basil's is a great venue for guitar concerts.  Please join the Newcastle Guitar Orchestra for a magical evening of Spanish guitar music, with our guest soloist, the wonderful Jonathan Ross Parkin.

The first half of the concert will contain favourites for guitar solo such as Capricho Catalan and Sevilla by Isaac Albeniz, and the exciting Gran Jota by Francisco Tarrega.

In the second Jonathan will be joined by the full forces of the Newcastle Guitar Orchestra.  The centrepiece will be a selection of six of the best movements from Carmen.  We will also play Chick Corea's Spain, inpired by Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, and La Jotta, a lively baroque dance by 17th century composer Santiago de Murcia.  This is guaranteed to get everyone in holiday mood.  We performed these pieces to rapturous applause at 17Nineteen in Sunderland earlier this month.  Don't miss the chance to see us in Newcastle!

Jonathan Ross Parkin originally hails from Middlesborough.  Currently based in Valencia, Jonathan is a professor at both the Escuela Superior de Música Alto Rendimiento (ESMAR) and at the Conservatorio Professional Ignacio Monzonís. He combines his teaching activity with solo and chamber recitals throughout Europe with his role as Guitar Coordinator at the Institute of Musical Development (IDM) for festivals such as Semana Tárrega and Festival Fortea.
