- **Event Description**: Join us on 22 May for Newcastle 'Big Bat Bioblitz', with simultaneous guided walks across the city discovering the bats of the Ouse Burn WayAbout this EventJoin us for Newcastle’s Big Bat Bioblitz - a coordinated, city-wide effort to discover how bats use the Ouse Burn catchment. With guided walks taking place simultaneously across multiple locations, we’ll help to build a bigger picture of how bats use our local green spaces. Check out our Eventbrite page for other walk locations.As we walk around, we will try find bats as they hunt insects by picking up their ultrasonic calls using specialist detectors. Throughout the night, you’ll learn about the species of bats in the UK, and the ones more commonly found in Newcastle and Northumberland.Please note that you will need to wear sturdy footwear and suitable outdoor clothing. Wrap up warm as it can get chilly! We recommend bringing a torch or headtorch as it will be dark. This event is open to everyone, but children must be accompanied by an adult.This event will be taking at and after dusk - please bring a torch (headtorch or handheld - not a phone torch!).Essential InformationEvent length: 1 session, Friday 22 May, 9pm -10.30pm (approx)Meet at: Brunton Lane (where meets Roseden Wy. Grid ref = NZ 23184 70752, What3Words = stuck.dive.quite)**This site is accessible via bus using the 49 Service from Newcastle City CentrePhotos will be taken at this event to use on social media and in NHSN publicity material. If you would prefer not to be photographed please let us know at the start of the event.AccessibilityToilet facilities are not available and there is no cafe on site.The walk is approximately 1.5 miles along a trail.
