Everyday Islamophobia tends to be regarded as low-level or trivial, yet is connected to broader global and states-sponsored forms of power and control. This talk – based on a recently-published book – considers the influence of the Islamophobia industrial complex and how this shapes people’s negotiations of Islamophobia as they go about their daily lives, and explores strategies to challenge and resist it.
Peter Hopkins is Professor of Social Geography at Newcastle University and a Leverhulme Major Research Fellow (2023-2026). His research interests centre upon issues of social inequality and justice with most of his research focusing upon the intersections of youth, migration and asylum, race and religion, and gender.
