Mental health, media and mindfulness

About this event:

Join communications agency, NGI Solutions and special guests Newcastle United Foundation, Tyneside and Northumberland Mind and the Road to Recovery Trust as we talk all things mental health.

Following the release of the CIPR State of the Profession report, whereby almost a quarter of respondents said they felt unsupported by their managers when discussing mental health problems, this event will explore a number of contexts in which PR practitioners may want to talk more openly and knowledgeably about mental health.

Talks will include:

Kathie Wilcox, Director, NGI Solutions will act as Chair, welcome delegates and provide a brief background to NGI Solutions’ and, specifically, its work in the health sector.

Lucy Nichol, Head of Marketing and Communications at NGI Solutions, freelance Mind script advisor and mental health writer will talk about mental health representations in the media. From TV shows to influencer opinion, Lucy will discuss the impact that negative portrayals can have on the wider public.

Ashley Lowe, Health and Wellbeing Manager, Newcastle United Foundation, along with Lucy Nichol, will discuss the Foundation’s #BeAGameChanger mental health campaign launched in partnership with NGI Solutions. They will discuss the key areas of consideration when launching a mental health project – a topic that more organisations are campaigning on both externally and internally.

Peter Mitchell, CEO, The Road to Recovery Trust and former Director of Programmes for Tyne Tees Television will share his personal story of alcoholism and recovery and the media industry’s changing culture and impact around addiction problems. He’ll also discuss the need for social interaction and support networks for anyone in recovery who may otherwise feel ashamed and isolated.

And finally, to ensure everybody leaves feeling revitalised and refreshed Anne-Marie Ianzito of Tyneside and Northumberland Mind will talk self-care in the workplace and allow us all a moment of calm by delivering a short mindfulness exercise at the end of the session.

This event is open to members and non-member of the CIPR and is worth 5 CPD points.
